Finding Inspiration in Every Step
Andy Yergler knows about life with an addiction. He has lived that life, has overcome addiction and has been able to maintain a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness activities, including triathlons, as well as other endurance sports. Craig Mickey has combatted a weight problem through an active lifestyle, including triathlons, where Craig and Andy met. Doug Johnston picked up endurance training later in life and met Andy and Craig through triathlons. Although they found their way to the company of each other for different reasons, the common denominator was an active lifestyle, including participation in endurance events such as triathlons.
Tri Recovery, Inc. was created to encourage others to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle by any means, whether it is walking, running, swimming, biking or any other activity that gets you up and active. The triathlon world has changed the lives of Andy, Craig and Doug. Their mission is to encourage people in their own recovery efforts, whether it stems from their own addiction, the addiction of a family member or loved one, or a simple recognition that it is time for an active lifestyle.
The world of triathlon centers around participating in an endurance event that is of varying lengths and duration. A swim can be as short as a few hundred yards or as long as over two miles. A bike ride can be as short as 6 miles or as long as over 100 miles. A run can be a mile, a 5k, or a marathon. It can be as much as you want or as little as you want, depending on your level of fitness, your goals, and your physical abilities. It offers something for everyone.
There are literally thousands of events around the country and the world where you can engage in any level of triathlon experience. The national organization is USA Triathlon. The Ironman Foundation also puts on longer triathlons, including a half Ironman and a full Ironman event in many places across the country and around the world.
Whether you are still in a battle with addiction, coming out of one and looking for support, or have been out of it for a long time but are looking to help others and/or give back, we encourage you to give Tri Recovery a chance. There are regular events planned, including actual triathlons and events of varying disciplines, distances, times and locations. We think that there is something for everyone. We look forward to meeting you and helping you in your journey as you share your own enthusiasm and motivation with us and others. Andy, Craig and Doug
